Growing Leaders – building stronger groups
Project Overview
Farming system groups report poor succession of committees and boards with a lack of leadership and governance training opportunities for staff and committee members. This leads to a reluctance in taking on roles due to a variety of the following reasons:
- Participants think that their skills are inadequate
- Lack of understanding of governance/legal liabilities
- Fear of needing to have a comprehensive knowledge of the organisation so that they can effectively represent
- Public speaking or making presentations
- Time commitment
The project aims to build the capacity of farming system groups by delivering training to support the members in taking on leadership roles, allowing for long-term succession planning to occur, and ultimately leading to stronger and more effective groups.

Project Update
October 2013: The initial two-day workshop was very successful, with ten participants learning about personality types and how they impact on group dynamics, characteristics of leaders, how to talk to the media, and much, much more. We are all looking forward to the upcoming webinars and individual coaching sessions.
