National Industry-Led Carbon Farming Outreach Program

National Industry-Led Carbon Farming Outreach Program

Ag Ex is one of 40 partners in a Grower Group Alliance led project aimed at supporting farmers and land managers to reduce emissions and sequester carbon.

The project has been funded under the Carbon Farming Outreach Program for two years by the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water, and ends in March 2026, with five projects supported nationally.

An online training package was developed by the University of Melbourne and provides foundational level information to the public. See Carbon Farming Outreach Program training package.

  • Funded by the Australian Government's Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water

  • Date: Until March 2026

  • Project Lead: Emma McInerney

  • Budget: $1,213,000

Objectives of the program:

  • support farmers and land managers to make decisions to reduce emissions
  • build capacity of trusted advisers to deliver independent advice
  • facilitate access to clear, consistent and culturally appropriate information on carbon farming and low-emissions technologies and practices.

Ag Ex has engaged 29 agronomists and livestock advisers from across SA who are highly respected and relied upon as trusted sources of information. A train-the-trainer mode of knowledge exchange will give these advisers the confidence to talk with clients and the broadacre farming community about emissions management on farms.

The project will deliver awareness raising events and workshops plus localised materials to assist in conveying complex messages.

Ag Ex is working with regionally with other project partners including Mallee Sustainable Farming, Southern Farming Systems, Riverine Plains and the Derwent Catchment groups.

Delivered with funding support from the Commonwealth of Australia through the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water under the Carbon Farming Outreach Program in collaboration with the Grower Group Alliance.
