Pilot Livestock Farm Biosecurity Planning Workshops – Expressions of Interest Open Now
Farm biosecurity has been identified as a weak link in the biosecurity chain, and a recent Livestock SA survey identified that many producers are unsure of the practical things they need to do to protect their farm.
Producers asked for “on-farm workshops, where a property is used as an example of what and how we could improve our biosecurity.”
The following workshops have been designed to visit group members properties, to discuss biosecurity threats unique to the region over a 6-month period.
Over time this will support members to embed good biosecurity practices into their business, taking the biosecurity plan from the page to the paddock.
Each group will identify biosecurity or animal health focus areas, that will be addressed by local vets or specialists invited to the group. Examples might include addressing a local animal health concern or support with traceability.
3-hour workshops will cover with participants over (up to) 5 workshops:
- Activity 1: On-farm risk assessment and identifying the biosecurity focus topic
- Activity 2: On-farm biosecurity planning and biosecurity focus topic
- Activity 3: On-farm biosecurity action plans and biosecurity focus topic
- Activity 4: On-farm biosecurity plan reviews, staff training and biosecurity focus topic
- Activity 5: Final catch-up, next steps and ongoing support
Who can participate?
Expressions of interest for these workshops are now open to Ag Hub Nodes and associated farming systems groups in South Australia.

How much does it cost to participate?
Livestock SA is delivering these workshops to provide farm biosecurity support for farmers and help address regional livestock biosecurity issues. This program is supported by the University of Adelaide, through funding from the Australian Government's Future Drought Fund.
