GPSA to hold series of on-farm grain storage workshops

Grain Producers SA (GPSA) is delivering a series of Grain Storage Workshops, in conjunction with Grains Research and Development Corporation’s (GRDC) Grain Storage Extension Project, to provide information and resources for producers on best practice on-farm grain storage.

The free workshops are being held in late March 2023 from the Yorke Peninsula to the Murraylands with support from industry service providers and suppliers.

GPSA Chief Executive Officer Brad Perry said the workshops are in response to feedback from GPSA’s annual producer survey. “Our 2022 grain producer survey demonstrated the increased investment and use of on-farm storage and we identified an opportunity to provide information and resources on this important topic,” said Mr Perry.

“Off the back of a record harvest in South Australia, it was evident that many grain producers opted to store grain on-farm for convenience, productivity and profitability reasons.

“There is a range of new technologies available to monitor on-farm storage and the workshops will explore the most efficient and practical ways to store grain, while protected from moisture and pests.

“Following the workshops, we are offering attendees the opportunity to visit a local grain producer’s property to see their on-farm storage first-hand.”

Leading the Grain Storage Workshops will be agricultural engineer Ben White, a well-known and respected expert in best practices for on-farm grain storage.
