Last call for applications: Where will the Ag Bureau awards take you?

Applications for Peter Olsen Fellowship and Rural Youth Bursary are coming to a close – with final date for submissions by Monday, 19th August.

These awards have created opportunities for current recipients, Damian McArdle of Chamberlain Pear Orchards and Alex Milner-Smyth, Executive Officer of SANTFA to sponsor their project tours overseas and enhances expertise within their fields.

Damian, last year’s fellowship winner of $8,000, has recently gained recognition and certification as a Perry Maker in Europe. Alex Milner-Smyth, Executive Officer of SANTFA who won last year’s Bursary of $5,000 is using her funds to study conservation farming practices in the United States at the end of August.

The Peter Olsen Fellowship requires candidates aged 18 to 35 working in primary production. The Rural Youth Bursary seek anyone aged 18 to 30 from varying industries across the rural landscape. Both share the same mission of pursuing further study towards a chosen career that will ultimately benefit the wider rural community of South Australia. Primary Industries and Regions SA are jointly sponsoring the Peter Olsen Fellowship and Rural Youth Bursary in 2013.

Presentation of the awards will be combined with a state-wide 125th birthday celebration of the Ag Bureau on 11th October in Adelaide.

Services to Primary Production is also open for nominations from Ag Bureau branch members; an award that acknowledges the significant contribution of one individual to the agricultural industry.
