New Horizons is a program funded by PIRSA to significantly improve the production from dryland agriculture in soils that suffer from subsoil constraints. The focus of the program is poorly structured, low fertility sands and poorly structured clay sub-soils. About 40% (4.1 million ha) of the area under broad acre agriculture in South Australia has soil issues which limit agricultural production that can be addressed through the New Horizons program.
