Improving grain legume production in the mallee

Growing better grain legumes in acid soils, sandy soils and dealing with weeds

This year’s Crop Walk will take us on a tour of several paddocks where we will cover the top issues affecting grain legume production in the Mallee.

This includes:

• A visit to the grain legume demo site with Michael Moodie to see second-year effects of treating acidic soils with lime and different amelioration methods in 2022.
• Looking at emerging acidity in Mallee sands and what are the treatment options with Brian Hughes, SARDI
• Liz Farquharson, SARDI, will also be discussing the benefits of acid tolerant rhizobia and improving N fixation in hostile soils
• We welcome Navneet from SARDI to the Mallee this year, who has been researching weed management in lentils on sandy soils.
