Dams with benefits: enhancing dams for stock and biodiversity
June 17 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm
Register for this free field day where you’ll walk away with practical ideas to turn your dam into a stronger asset for your farm.
Join Northern and Yorke Landscape Board for a practical, research-led field day focused on how better farm dams can deliver real gains on your property.
Drawing from the latest findings from the Sustainable Farms initiative (Australian National University), this session will explore how simple dam improvements can lift water quality, boost productivity, enhance on-farm biodiversity and contribute to lower emissions – turning dams into valuable assets.
Hear insights from the Ripple Effect project (Adelaide University), which focuses on improving livestock health and performance through better water management. This research explores how water quality directly affects intake, weight gain and overall productivity.
On the day, you will:
• See real-life examples of dam improvements.
• Explore biodiversity gains from enhanced dams.
• Understand how water quality impacts animal health and performance.
• Learn how better dam management builds natural capital on your farm.
• Hear the latest scientific research on water quality and livestock productivity.
Participants are encouraged to bring along water samples, which will be tested for salinity and pH on the spot.
This is a free event, but registration is essential. Register here.
