AWI ClassiFly Pilot Workshop

10 October 2022 @ 8:30 am - 5:00 pm

AWI’s new flystrike workshop, ClassiFly™, is focused on the tools available for classing and selection for improved flystrike resistance. Improving a sheep’s natural resistance to flystrike through breeding reduces the risk of flystrike in both mulesed and non-mulesed sheep, reducing labour and reliance on chemical use, mulesing and crutching. Please find attached the AWI Flystrike Extension Program Overview which provides more information on the suite of resources in this package.

AWI is looking for woolgrowers to participate in ClassiFly™ pilot workshops to critically evaluate the content, ensuring the workshop is by growers, for growers.

Woolgrowers that attend the interactive, one-day workshop will better understand the traits associated with flystrike resistance and the tools available to assist them to class, select and join for these traits to reduce their flock’s susceptibility to flystrike.

Woolgrowers will work through practical activities that enable them to leave with a written breeding objective, specific to their property, that helps further focus their breeding and selection decisions on traits that improve overall animal welfare, profitability and productivity.

Your feedback during these pilot workshops is essential and will contribute to the final resources. Once the resources are complete, train-the-trainer sessions will be held for consultants nationwide and the workshop made available to woolgrowers via AWI’s grower extension networks.

Attendance at the pilot workshops is free and AWI will supply everything you need on the day, including lunch and refreshments.
