Science and innovation awards for young people in agriculture, fisheries and forestry
The annual Science and Innovation awards for young people in agriculture, fisheries and forestry (the Awards) foster greater participation in agriculture, fisheries and forestry through innovative scientific research projects. The Awards program aims to assist industries improve productivity, sustainability and adaptability through the provision of science and innovation in research, development and extension. This is achieved through grant funding for research projects following a competitive application round. The Awards have a number of industry categories related to the portfolio.
A successful applicant’s research project will be funded to a maximum of $22,000 (GST inclusive). The research project is required to be started and concluded within a 12 month period. The funding will be paid to successful applicants’ host organisation where applicable. The Awards aim to:
a) assist primary producers to develop more competitive, internationally focused and self reliant industries through attracting innovative research proposals that will lead to longer term innovation in the sector
b) encourage the uptake of science, innovation and technology in rural industries
c) advance the careers of young scientists 18–35 years through national recognition and funding of their research ideas
d) encourage participation in science, innovation and technology in rural industries and increase interactions between the tertiary and government sectors.
