In an unexpected but exciting development, applications have re-opened for the Hart Field Site Group’s (Hart) Regional Internship in Applied Grains Research on 15 January 2025.

The position was originally filled in September 2024 with a start date of February 2025, but the successful candidate is no longer able to take up the role, unlocking a new opportunity for those keen to start their career in grains research.

This fully paid, 12-month internship is based in the heart of the Clare Valley, South Australia.

It provides invaluable hands-on experience in applied grains research across a full year, allowing the successful candidate to develop competencies in a broad range of areas.

In addition, the extension and communication component of the internship makes it a comprehensive training ground for future experts in the field.

Participants will become versatile in their research capabilities as they work on a wide range of research projects in areas including weed management and control, soil fertility and crop nutrition, agronomy, seeding systems, drought resilience and more.

Working side by side with Hart’s Research & Extension Manager, Rebekah Allen, and collaborating with the states leading researchers, consultants, and industry representatives, interns will build their professional network and open doors to future career prospects.

Interns will also spend time with SARDI researchers at Waite campus, and attend numerous field days, workshops, and industry events, experiences that will boost their knowledge and expand their professional connections further.

Beyond technical skills, the internship provides one-on-one support and mentorship in areas like planning and organisation, strategies to meet deadlines and goal setting, preparing interns for a range of research-based roles in the future.

The Hart research internship also stands as an excellent preparation for further study, including potential pursuit of Honours or PhD programs.

Applicants must have obtained a Bachelor of Agricultural Science (or similar) within the last five years, have the right to work in Australia and hold a current Australian driver’s license (C Class).

A genuine passion for grains research is essential, as the program also aims to build capacity in the sector, offering a structured path to fast-track one's career.

This comprehensive, high-quality program is designed to nurture the next generation of agricultural scientists and drive innovation in grains research - don’t miss this rare chance to kick-start your career in agricultural research with SA’s premier cropping field site.

Hart’s research internship program is supported by Hart, South Australian Grain Industry Trust (SAGIT), the Drought Resilience Adoption and Innovation Hub (SA Drought Hub), and SARDI.

Applications will close on 5 February, 2025 at 5pm (ACDT).
