Phosphorus replacement in the Upper Eyre Peninsula

Branding Community Sourced

Cathy Paterson, Research Officer with SARDI at the Minnipa Agricultural Centre on the upper Eyre Peninsula, discuses a project examining phosphorous replacement strategies to maintain productivity and profitability following a series of poor seasons and escalating fertilizer prices. The project involved a series of trials from 2009 to 2012 to compare phosphorus rates and their affect on soil phosphorous reserves, crop yield and profitability, to develop risk management strategies for low rainfall farming systems. This research was conducted as part of the project “Eyre Peninsula Farming Systems 3 — Responsive Farming Systems UA00107”, funded by the GRDC.
