SUMMARY:Regenerative Grazing
DESCRIPTION:Join Alejandro Carrillo and Colin Seis\, leaders in regenerative agriculture\, for a day of learning with real life examples. This workshop is for farmers\, graziers\, pastoralists\, land managers\, and anyone wanting to learn more about regenerative land management or share their experiences. The event will begin with presentations from Alejandro and Colin\, each sharing their work in regenerative grazing\, holistic management\, and pasture renewal. You’ll hear how they have managed drought-affected landscapes to encourage productive systems while reducing inputs and promoting ecological stability. After presentations\, there will be a paddock walk with opportunity for discussions and questions. \nKey Themes: \n\nRegenerative Grazing & Holistic Management\nPasture Identification & Valuation\nGround Cover & Drought Resilience\nRotational Grazing Strategies\nInput Reduction & Soil Health\n\nMeet the Speakers: \nAlejandro Carrillo – A fourth-generation rancher in the Chihuahuan Desert\, Mexico\, Alejandro is globally recognised for adapting holistic grazing techniques to arid environments. His work supports over three times more cattle per acre than the regions’ benchmark. He also advises internationally and represents desertification solutions at the United Nations. \nColin Seis – The Australian farmer behind the Pasture Cropping Method\, which combines pastures\, crops\, and livestock to improve land condition on his property. By adopting this method\, Colin was able to boost soil carbon which dramatically reduced his costs and improved land health.

SUMMARY:Decision-making to help farmers become more drought resilient
DESCRIPTION:Drought-resilient farming doesn’t happen by accident. It happens when farmers make informed\, strategic decisions – early and often\, supported by timely\, relevant information from experts. But what are these decisions\, what information do you need and when should they be made so you minimise the impact of drought and recover more quickly? \nSA Drought Hub invites farmers\, advisers and industry representatives to attend the Port Augusta pilot workshop for the SA Drought Hub DRINKS project. Presented by Cam Nicholson\, this workshop will focus on strategic decision-making actions before\, during & after drought for Pastoral and Rangelands Production. \nThe Drought Resilience Information and Knowledge Sharing (DRINKS) project is based on the model implemented by the Victoria Drought Resilience Adoption and Innovation Hub. Through DRINKS\, the SA Drought Hub seeks to capture experiences from farmers from different farming systems\, in different seasons\, and use that knowledge to build the capacity of all farmers and stakeholders. \nThe aim is to develop enterprise-specific ‘base maps’ for key industries and regions in SA\, that identify and describe the critical considerations farmers and advisers should focus on to build drought resilience. These considerations are based on the season and the stage in the climate cycle (good times\, uncertain period\, drought\, and recovery). \nThis knowledge helps build a greater feeling of control and confidence that you are spending time on actions that will make a difference\, both in the short and long term. \nWe invite farmers and advisers to join in a decision-making workshop with Cam Nicholson from the Victoria Drought Hub to build these ‘base maps’. By the end of the workshop you will have a plan identifying the main decisions and actions to focus on depending on seasonal conditions. \nSpaces are limited – registration essential.
