The power of raindrops

11 July 2022 @ 10:00 am - 3:00 pm

Register for a one day workshop to understand the way water flows over your property. Is the water driving or damaging your landscape?

The “Goyder’s Line” region of South Australia is at the sharp end of climate change, which is most obvious in the increased frequency of failed autumn rains and disappointing crops.

Soil moisture drives ecosystems and the agricultural production it supports. While there are many opportunities to adapt to climate change and drought more generally, we will focus on the first chance farmers have to manage raindrops.

In the morning session you will hear from two speakers:

  • Dr Hugh Pringle will discuss how raindrops can hurt as much as help soil moisture balance and soil resources
  • Anne Brown will explain the importance of perennial pasture plants and review innovative recent and ongoing pasture improvement projects

This workshop will provide an opportunity to make key observations and suggest critical ideas about raindrop management.

After lunch we will head out to visit a priority restoration project and traverse it from the headwaters downwards, focusing on how much opportunity there is to improve raindrop efficiency with landscape smart interventions.
