GRDC Farm Business Update (Port Lincoln)

March 27 @ 9:00 am - 1:00 pm

| $20 – $30

Port Lincoln forum to focus on profitable grain enterprises

Opportunities to generate profit growth within Eyre Peninsula grain growing enterprises will be explored at a farm business forum next week.

The Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC) is hosting a Farm Business Update at Port Lincoln on March 26 where topics such as economic analysis of key decisions, maintaining grain quality in on-farm storage, self-managed superannuation funds, and creating a prosperous farming future will be on the agenda.

GRDC Grower Relations Manager – South, Darren Arney, says the Farm Business Update will be an important forum for discussing avenues for building farm profitability.

“Beyond the day-to-day tactics that growers employ to address agronomic issues on-farm, opportunities exist for growers to generate improved returns through new strategic approaches to their farming systems,” Mr Arney said.

“The GRDC Farm Business Update at Port Lincoln presents EP growers with a unique opportunity to hear from highly respected experts who will provide valuable insights and advice to assist in underpinning positive farm enterprise changes.”

Consultant Ed Hunt will present the economic analysis of some key decisions for EP growers, comparing the financial returns of hybrid and open pollinated canola, and narrow row spacings in the low, medium and high rainfall zones.

To store or not to store – that is the question to be explored by Chris Warrick from Primary Business who will outline the non-negotiables of maintaining grain quality in on-farm storage and how to measure the economic returns on investment.

Guidelines for investing in self-managed superannuation funds will be presented by Naomi Durdin of Eyre Accounting, while Lachlan Polkinghorne from ProAdvice will outline the core attributes of a prosperous business and identify the characteristics of the key profit drivers of a resilient business.

The GRDC Farm Business Update will be held at the Port Lincoln Hotel from 9am to 1pm, with catering provided (including lunch).
