Board Members Sought | Natural Resources Management Boards

Are you well connected in your community and have strong leadership skills? Do you have a drive to improve how the precious soils, water, plants and animals are managed in your region? Do you want to become part of a dynamic and strategic team to ensure your region’s natural resources support prosperous businesses, strong communities and a healthy environment?

Applications are now open to fill a number of vacancies across the eight regional Natural Resources Management (NRM) Boards, including the Presiding Member of the South East NRM Board. These positions will commence in April 2018.

Across South Australia eight regional NRM boards established under the Natural Resources Management Act 2004 have up to nine community members, including a Presiding Member, that take a strong lead in natural resources management within their region, working in partnership with other organisations and the community to deliver on ground results.

As a board member you will be involved in bringing the community, industry and government into the heart of decision making on natural resources management. You will help the Board prepare and implement a plan for the region to achieve sustainable farming practices, pest plant and animal control, biodiversity protection and sustainable water use.

Board members collectively will have a range of skills, knowledge and practical experience in areas including:

· community affairs at the regional level
· primary production or pastoral land management
· soil conservation and land management
· conservation and biodiversity management
· water resources management
· business administration
· local government or local government administration
· urban or regional planning
· Aboriginal interest in the land and water, and Aboriginal heritage
· pest animal and plant control
· natural and social science
· if relevant – coast, estuarine and marine management, fisheries or aquaculture.

If you want to make a difference and improve natural resources management by applying your strategic thinking, connections with the community and ability to build partnerships please apply to become a member of your regional natural resources management board.

The time commitment can vary between boards but approximately 4 – 5 days will be required for your service each month. The Presiding Member engages in a broader range of functions supporting the NRM board, which requires more time. The positions are remunerated.

Women and Aboriginal people are encouraged to apply.
